Being Scene - In the Media
|
"The challenge in any business, but particularly in "Small Business" is to stay fresh in the minds of your clients.
There are many out there offering a very similar product to yours, and if you fail to stay engaged, you run the risk of being forgotten. Give me a camera and a reporter, and I am happy to tell my story. Call me a "Media Tart" if you like, but in the relatively short time we have been on the bridge, we have managed to be a part of a major Queensland - USA advertising campaign, an extremely popular Japanese travel program, a CNN/Brisbane Tourism special still airing internationally, countless local publications, including Courier Mail, Sunday Mail, Brisbane Times and most recently Brisbane News, not to mention electronic publications such as My City Life. Not only has this highlighted the unique and quirky nature of our business, but it has also thrown the spotlight on many of my staff that have also received recognition for their talents. With the ever increasing popularity of the services we provide in this incredible location, I can't see us fading away from the spotlight too soon.. #STAYTUNED..!! |

Brendan's Christmas Dinner - Featured in Brisbane News Magazine
|
Recently Brisbane News Magazine featured Brendan's Christmas Dinner. ‘Themed as formal Queensland with a Balinese-tropical influence’, the setting was spectacular with Bamboo tripods featuring hung fairy lights, an amazing floral arrangement and a sunset like none other.
"Night is falling on the Brisbane River but on the Goodwill Bridge, candles are flickering to life. A table is set for 12 beneath a bamboo structure laced with blooms, Tuberoses, lilies and lisianthus, woven with fair lights and festive baubles, kiss the air with their scent. Its all rather heavenly. Welcome to Christmas Dinner with Brendan Harris, 47, owner of Café on the Goodwill Bridge, who is polishing goblets from Jack Mitchell and unpacking 30 year old Wedgwood plates. “It’s been a logistical challenge,” agreed Brendan, who has been cheered on by passersby all afternoon. White cane chairs arrive from European Design, along with a timber side table to servce as a mikeshift bar. Topped with crystral tumblers, Bacardi, mint and mines, its mojito central. “My inspiration is formal Queensland with a Balinese-tropical influence,” says Brendan of his festive table, created for Brisbane News. Christmas is a favourite time of the year for Brendan and his wife Kelly who host a Christmas Eve Breakfast on the bridge for their regulars, including a GP who dresses as Elvis and sings. Guests devour about 20kg of glazed ham between slices of custy bread, washed down with bubbly, as well as Kelly’s “night before Christmas” cake and 700 rum balls. For Brendan, who grew up at Mount Tamborirne, a beautifully set table is integral to the success of any celebration – something that was instilled in him by his late mum, Lorraine. “My dad could build a table if we had extra people at Christmas, but Mum would always make sure we all had the same plates, cutlery and glassware,” he says. This year Brendan, Kelly and son Saxon, 14, will spend Christmas Day at home at Windaroo, 40km south of Brisbane. “My favourite part is the end, reflecting on a day without stress or rush, and saying, ‘My God, how good was that?’” (Brisbane News - http://www.brisbanenews.com.au/) |
